In my real life, I’m a First Grade teacher beginning my 11th year at a Title I school.
Some time ago, I actually had someone say to me that she thought teachers should remain single, utterly devoted to their students, not unlike Miss Beadle from Little House on the Prairie.
I was stunned. What do you say to that? Should doctors, lawyers, postal workers, and bankers remain single, utterly devoted to their work?
On this blog, I hope to make it abundantly clear that teachers are real people, with real lives, priorities, and thoughts of their own. And like doctors, lawyers, postal workers, bankers, and everyone else working for a living, at the end of the day we do our jobs so that we can put food on our tables and shoes on our kids.
Welcome to my life and times.
